Study Permit in Canada

Canada is a top destination for international students from all over the world. If you are interested in studying in Canada, you must obtain a Canadian study permit first. A study permit is a document given by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) that authorizes international students to study in Canada at a particular educational institution. After receiving a letter of admission from a designated learning institution, such as a university or college, you must apply for a study visa with the IRCC.

Opportunities and Process

Exploring study options in Canada starts with finding the right school and program for your goals. Once you’ve selected your preferred institution, submit your application directly to them. After receiving your acceptance letter, you can apply for your Canadian study permit. For smooth processing, it’s best to start planning your study permit application at least a year before your intended start date.

There are various options available to candidates, including:

  • Study Permit of Canada – The standard route for international students wanting to study programs longer than 6 months
  • Studying without a Study Permit – For short courses lasting 6 months or less, no study permit is required
  • Getting work while Studying in Canada – Students can work part-time during studies to help with expenses and gain experience
  • Getting Job After Completion of Studies – Graduates can apply for post-graduation work permits allowing them to work in Canada for up to three years, gaining valuable Canadian work experience and potentially qualifying for permanent residence
