Visitor Visa Application Canada
A visitor visa, also known as a Temporary Resident Visa (TRV), is an official document issued by the IRCC that permits you to enter Canada. This visa is typically affixed to your passport as an official counterfoil, which you must present at the Canadian border upon arrival.
A single-entry visa allows the holder to enter Canada only once. On the other hand, a multiple-entry visa allows the visa holder to travel in and out of Canada multiple times, with each stay being up to six months, without the need to reapply. A multiple-entry visa can be valid for up to 10 years, or it may expire one month before the visa holder’s passport expires, whichever comes first.
Who Can Apply for a Visitor Visa?
You may be eligible to travel to Canada if you meet the following requirements:
- You possess a valid passport.
- You are in good health.
- You have sufficient financial resources to cover your expenses while in Canada.
- You have a residence outside Canada and other strong ties that ensure you will return home after your visit.
- You plan to stay in Canada for a specific and limited period.
- You can demonstrate to the immigration authorities that you have ties to your home country, which will motivate you to return.
- You may be required to pass a medical exam or provide a letter of invitation from someone living in Canada.
Immigration officers typically determine the length of your stay upon arrival, and your passport will be stamped with the admission stamp. The maximum stay a visitor can receive is usually 6 months.
Before departing, you must apply for a Temporary Resident Visa (TRV) as you cannot get one upon arrival in Canada. If you wish to extend your stay, you must apply at least 30 days before your current status expires.
In most cases, holders of a TRV are not allowed to work or study in Canada without a separate permit.
